Probabilistic Fault-Containment

چکیده
Research on fine tuning stabilization properties has received attention for nearly a decade. This paper presents a probabilistic algorithm for fault-containment, that confines the effect of any single fault to the immediate neighborhood of the faulty process, with an expected recovery time of O(∆). The most significant aspect of the algorithm is that the fault-gap, defined as the smallest interval after which the system is ready to handle the next single fault with the same efficiency, depends only on ∆, and is independent of the network size. We argue that a small fault-gap increases the availability of the fault-free system.

Fault-Containment in Weakly-Stabilizing Systems
Research on fine tuning stabilization properties has received attention for more than a decade. This paper presents probabilistic algorithms for fault containment. We demonstrate two exercises in fault containment in a weakly stabilizing system, which expedite recovery from single failures, and confine the effect of any single fault to the constant-distance neighborhood of the faulty process. T...
متن کاملDesign Patterns for Fault Containment
Fault containment is an important constituent of fault tolerance. Means for fault containment allow a system to limit the impact of manifested faults to some predefined system boundaries. This document presents some of the best known techniques for fault containment formatted as design patterns. These patterns are elicited from the areas of self-stabilization, specification closure and fault to...
متن کاملAccurate Fault Classification of Transmission Line Using Wavelet Transform and Probabilistic Neural Network
Fault classification in distance protection of transmission lines, with considering the wide variation in the fault operating conditions, has been very challenging task. This paper presents a probabilistic neural network (PNN) and new feature selection technique for fault classification in transmission lines. Initially, wavelet transform is used for feature extraction from half cycle of post-fa...
متن کاملProbabilistic View of Occurrence of Large Earthquakes in Iran
In this research seismicity parameters, repeat times and occurrence probability of large earthquakes are estimated for 35 seismic lineaments in Persian plateau and the surrounding area. 628 earthquakes of historical time and present century with MW>5.5 were used for further data analysis. A probabilistic model is used for forecasting future large earthquake occurrences in each chosen lineament....
متن کاملHierarchical Composition of Self-Stabilizing Protocols Preserving the Fault-Containment Property
A desired property of large distributed systems is self adaptability against the faults that occur more frequently as the size of the distributed system grows. Self-stabilizing protocols provide autonomous recovery from finite number of transient faults. Fault-containing selfstabilizing protocols promise not only self-stabilization but also containment of faults (quick recovery and small effect...
